I Nephi CHAPTER 21

Again, listen Israel, all that are cast away and driven out due of the wickedness my people's pastors--- yes, all that are cast away, scattered abroad, of my people, Israel. Listen, Oh islands, to me, and listen people at a distance; the Lord has called me from the womb; from my mother's gut has he mentioned my name.

And he made my mouth like a sharp sword. In his hand's shadow he hids me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver he hids me.

And said to me, "You are my servant, Oh Israel, in whom I'll be glorified.

Then I said, "I have worked for nothing, I have used up my strength for nothing. Surely my judgment is with the Lord, and my work with my God.

Presently, says the Lord that shaped me from the womb, that I should be his servant bringing Jacob again to him (though Israel be scattered). Yet, will I be glorious in the eyes of the Lord, and my God shall be my power.

And he said, "It is a easy thing that thou should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel. I will also give you as a light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation to the farthest reaches of the earth."

The Lord says this, "The Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, to him whom man despises, whom the nations hate, servant of rulers. Kings shall see and arise, princes also will worship, because the Lord is faithful."

The Lord said, "At an acceptable time I have heard you, oh Islands of the sea, and in a day of salvation have I helped you. And I will preserve you, and give you my servant for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit ruined heritage;

That you may say to the prisoners, "Travel; to them that sit in darkness --- show yourselves. They will feed along the way, and their pastures will be in every high place.

They will not be hungry nor thirsty, neither will heat nor the sun kill them; for he that has mercy on them will lead them, even along springs of water will he guide them.

And I will make all my mountains a path, and my highways will be exalted.

And then, oh Israel, behold, these will arrive from a distance; and note, these from the north and the west, and from the land of Sinim.

Sing, oh heavens; and be joyful, oh earth --- because the feet of those who are in the east will be established; and break forth singing, oh mountains; for they shall be hurt no more; since the Lord has comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted.

But, note, Zion has said, "The Lord has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me." But he will show that he has not.

Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, they may forget, yet will I not forget you, Oh Israel.

Note, I have engraved you upon the palms of my hands. Your walls are always before me.

Your children will hurry against your attackers; and they that made waste shall part from you.

Look up and around and behold; all these congregate together, and they will come to thee. And as I exist," says the Lord, "You will surely dress with them all, like an ornament, and bind them even as a bride.

For your waste and desolate places, and the land of your destruction, will even now be too narrow because of the inhabitants, And they that swallowed you up shall be distant.

The children whom you will have, after you have lost the initial, will again in your ears say, "The place is too narrow for me; give way to me that I may live.

Then will you say in your heart, "Who has begotten me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am empty, a captive, and separating to and fro? And who has raised up these? Note, I was left alone; these, where have they been?

This says the Lord God, "Note, I will lift up my hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard for the people; and they shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters shall be carried upon their shoulders.

And kings shall be your nursing fathers, and their queen your nursing mothers. They shall bow to you with their face to the ground, and lick the dirt of your feet; and you will realize that I am the Lord; for they will not be ashamed that wait for me.

For will the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captives delivered?

But the Lord said, "Even the captives of the mighty shall be removed, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered; for I will deal with him that deals with you, and I will save your descendants.

And I will feed them that oppress you with their own flesh; they shall be drunk with their own blood as with sweet wine. And all flesh shall know that I, the Lord, am your Savior and Redeemer -- the Mighty One of Jacob."

I Nephi CHAPTER 22

And presently it occurred that I, Nephi, having read these things which were scratched upon the brass plates, my brothers came to me and said, "What's the meaning of these things which you read? Note, are they to be understood as spiritual things (which will happen according to the spirit) and not the material?"

And I, Nephi, replied, "Note they were revealed to the prophet by the Spirit's voice; for by the Spirit are all things revealed to the prophets, which will happen to the children of men according to the material.

Therefore, the things of which I have read are things pertaining to the both temporal and spiritual; for it appears that Israel, sooner or later, will be scattered everywhere over the face of the earth, and among all nations.

And note, there are many already unknown among those at Jerusalem. Yes, the greater portion of all the tribes have been led away; and they are scattered across the islands of the sea; and where they are none of us knows ---  except that they have been led away.

And since they have been led away, these things have been prophesied regarding them, and also all those who will afterwards be scattered and be confused, because of the Holy One of Israel; because against him will they harden their hearts. Therefore, they will be scattered throughout all nations and shall be hated of all men.

Regardless, later they shall be care ford by the Gentiles, and the Lord has lifted up his hand upon the Gentiles and set them up as a standard. And their children have been carried in their arms, and their daughters upon their shoulders. Note these things of which are spoken are temporal, as are the covenants of the Lord with our fathers, and it regards us in the days to come, and also all our brothers who are of the nation of Israel.

And it means that the time will come that after all of Israel has been scattered and confused, that the Lord God will raise up a mighty nation among the Gentiles, yes, even upon the face of this land. And by them shall our seed be scattered.

And after our seed is scattered the Lord God will proceed to do a fantastic work among the Gentiles, which will be of great value to our descendants. Therefore, it is regarded as their being nourished by the Gentiles and being carried in their arms and on their shoulders.

And it shall also be of value to the Gentiles; and not only the Gentiles but to all the nation of Israel --- for the understanding of the covenants of the Father of heaven to Abraham, saying. 'In your seed will all the kindred of the earth be blessed.'

And I'd rather, my brothers, that you should understand that all the races of the earth cannot be blessed unless he shall uncover his arm before the nations.

Therefore, the Lord God will proceed to uncover his arm before all the nations, in bringing about his covenants and his gospel to those who are of the nation of Israel.

So, he will bring them out of captivity, and they shall be gathered together to the lands of their inheritance. And they shall be brought out of obscurity and out of darkness, and realize that the Lord is their Savior and Redeemer -- the Mighty One of Israel.

And the blood of that large and hateful church, which is the whore of all the earth, shall turn upon their own heads; for they shall fight among themselves, and the sword of their own hands shall fall upon their own heads, and they shall be drunken with their own blood.

And every nation which shall war against you, O Israel, shall be turned against each other. And they shall fall into the pit which they dug to capture the people of the Lord. And all that fight against Zion will be destroyed, and that great whore, who perverted the correct paths of the Lord, yes, that large and hateful church, shall crumble to dust and great will be its fall.

Notice, says the prophet, the time quickly arrives when Satan shall have no more power over the hearts of the children of men. For the day arrives fast that all the proud and those who do wicked deeds shall be as stubble. And the day will come that they must be consumed.

For the time soon comes that the complete wrath of God shall be poured out upon all the children of men; for he will not allow the wicked to destroy the righteous.

Therefore, he will preserve the righteous by his power, even if it so be that the his full wrath must come, and the righteous be preserved, even to the destruction of their enemies by fire. Therefore, the righteous need not fear; for the prophet says that they shall be saved, even if it so be as by fire.

Note, my brothers, I say to you, that these things must shortly come. Yes, even blood, and fire, and ash must come, and it must be upon the face of this earth. And it comes to men according to the flesh if it be that they harden their hearts against the Holy One of Israel.

Note, the righteous shall not perish, for the time surely must arrive that all who war against Zion shall be cut off.

And the Lord will surely prepare a way for his people, to the fulfilling of the words of Moses, saying, 'A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up for you, like me; him shall you hear in all things whatsoever he will say to you. And it shall occur that all those who will not hear that prophet shall be cut off from among the people.'

And presently I, Nephi, declare to you, that this prophet of whom Moses spoke was the Holy One of Israel. Therefore, he shall execute righteous judgment.

And the righteous need not fear, for they shall not be confused. But it is the kingdom of the devil, which shall be fabricated among the children of men, which kingdom is established among them which are in the flesh—

For the time Quickly shall come that all churches which are built up to gather wealth, and all those built up to gather power over the flesh, and those built up to become popular in the eyes of the world, and who seek the lusts of the flesh and the things of the world, and do all manner of iniquity; yes, all those who belong to the kingdom of the devil ---- they who need fear, tremble, and quake. They are those who must be brought to dust -- who must be consumed as stubble, and this is according to the words of the prophet.

And the time quickly arrives that the righteous must be led up as calves of the stall, and the Holy One of Israel must reign in dominion, might, power, and great glory.

And he gathers his children from across the earth and he numbers his sheep. And they know him and there shall be one fold and one shepherd. And he shall feed his sheep, and in him they shall find pasture.

And because of the righteousness of his people, Satan has no power. Therefore, he cannot be set free for the space of many years; for he has no power over the hearts of the people, for they dwell in righteousness, and the Holy One of Israel reigns.

And now regard, I, Nephi, say to you that all these things must come according to the flesh.

But note, all nations, families, tongues, and races shall dwell safely in the Holy One of Israel if it be that they repent.

And presently I, Nephi, finish, for I dare not speak further as yet concerning these things.

Therefore, my brothers, I rather that You should consider that the things which have been written upon the brass plates are true; and they testify that a man must obey the commandments of God.

Therefore, you need not imagine that I and my father are the only ones that have testified, and also taught them. Therefore, if you shall be obedient to the commandments, and endure to the end, you shall be saved at the last day. And so it is. Amen."

THE SECOND BOOK OF NEPHI CHAPTER 1

And presently it occurred that after I, Nephi, finished instructing my brothers, our father, Lehi, also said much to them, and reiterated to them, how great the Lord had done by bringing them out of the land of Jerusalem.

And he spoke to them regarding their rebellion at sea, and the mercies of God in sparing their lives --- that they were not drowned.

And he also spoke to them concerning the land of promise, that they were given —how merciful the Lord had been in warning us that we should flee from the land of Jerusalem.

"Do note," said he, "I had a vision in which I know that Jerusalem is destroyed, and had we remained at Jerusalem we would also have perished."

"But," said he, "nevertheless in spite of our afflictions, we obtained a land of promise --- choice land above all others. A land the Lord God made a covenant with me that should be a land for my descendants. Yes, the Lord made a covenanted to me, and to my children forever --- including all those led out of other countries by the hand of the Lord.

Therefore, I, Lehi, prophesy by the Spirit which is in me, that none shall enter this land except they shall be brought by the hand of the Lord.

Accordingly, this land is consecrated to him whom he brings. And if it happens that they shall serve him according to his commandments, it shall be a land of liberty for them. Therefore, they shall never be brought into captivity; unless it's be because of iniquity. For if iniquity abounds the land will be cursed for their sake, but for righteous it shall be blessed forever.

And note, it is wise that this land should be kept presently from the knowledge of other nations, because, many nations would overrun the land making no room for an inheritance.

Therefore, I, Lehi, have obtained a promise that, as long as, those whom the Lord God brings out of the land of Jerusalem keep his commandments, they shall prosper in this land. And they shall be protected from all other nations, that they may possess this land themselves. And if they keep his commandments they shall be blessed upon this land, and there shall be none to bother them or take away the land of their inheritance. And they shall dwell safely forever.

But note, when the time arrives that they dwindle in belief, after having received great blessings from the hand of the Lord (having a knowledge of the creation of the earth and realizing the great and marvelous works of the Lord from the creation of the world; having power provided to do all things by faith; having all the commandments from the beginning, and having been brought by his infinite goodness to this precious land of promise) I say, if the day arrives that they will reject the Holy One of Israel, the true Messiah, Redeemer and their God, note, the judgments of him that is just shall rest upon them.

Yes, he will bring other nations to them, and will give them power, and will take away from them the lands of their possessions, and he will cause them to be scattered and harmed.

Yes, as one generation passes onto another there shall be bloodshed, and great visitations among them. Therefore, my sons, I would that you would remember; yes, I want you to listen to my words.

Oh that you would wake up as from a deep asleep --- yes, even from the sleep of hell, and shake off the terrible chains by which you are bound. These are the chains which bind the children of men, that they are carried away captive down to the eternal gulf of misery and woe.

Awake! and arise from the dirt, and hear the words of a trembling parent, whose limbs you will soon lay down in the cold and silent grave, from where no venturer can return. A few more days and I go the way of all the earth

But realize, the Lord has redeemed my soul from hell. I have beheld his glory, and I am encircled about eternally in the embrace of his love.

And I desire that you should remember to observe the statutes and the judgments of the Lord. Note, this hath been the anxiety of my soul from the start.

My heart hath been weighed down with sorrow from time to time, for I have feared that because of the hardness of your hearts the Lord your God should come pour his full wrath upon you -- that you be cut off and destroyed forever;

or, that a cursing should come upon you for many generations; and you are visited with sword, and famine, and hatred, and are led according to the manipulation and captivity of the devil.

Oh my sons, that these things might not come upon you, but rather that you might be a choice and a favored people of the Lord. But note, his will be done; for his ways are righteousness eternally.

And he has said, "As long as you shall keep my commandments you shall prosper in the land; but for as much as you will not keep my commandments you shall be cut off from my presence.

And now that my soul might have joy in you, and that my heart might leave this world with gladness because of you (that I might not be brought down with grief and sorrow to the grave) get out of the dirt, my sons, and be men. And be determined in bone mind and in one heart, united in all things, that you may not come into captivity;

That you may not be cursed stringently. And also, that you may not incur the displeasure of a just God upon you, unto destruction, even the eternal destruction of both soul and body.

Awake, my sons; put on the armor of righteousness. Shake off the chains with which you are bound, and come out of obscurity, and out of the dirt.

Rebel no more against your brother, whose views have been glorious, and who has kept the commandments from the time that we left Jerusalem; and who has been an instrument in the hands of God, in bringing us to the land of promise. If it were it not for him, we would have perished with hunger in the wilderness; nevertheless, you sought to eteal away his life; yea, and he suffered much sorrow because of you.

And I greatly fear and tremble regarding you, lest he shall suffer again; for notice, you have accused him of seeking power and authority over you; but I know that he did not seek power nor authority over you, but he sought the glory of God, and your own eternal welfare.

And you have grumbled because he has been level to you. You say that he has been strict. You say that he has been angry with you. Note however, his strictness was that of the power of the word of God, which was in him; and what you call anger was the truth, according to that of God, which he could not restrain, manifesting boldly concerning your sins.

And it has to be the power of God with him, even in his commanding you that you must obey. But note, it was not him, but it was the Spirit of the Lord in him, which opened his mouth to speak that he could not contain it.

And now my sons, Laman, Lemuel and Sam, and also my sons of Ishmael, note, if you listen to Nephi you will not perish. And I will leave you a blessing, yes, my first blessing.

But if ye will not hearken unto him I take away my afirst blessing, yea, even my blessing, and it shall rest upon him.

And Presently, Zoram, I speak to you because you are the servant of Laban; nevertheless, you have been brought out of the land of Jerusalem, and I know you are a true friend to my son Nephi forever.

Therefore, because you have been faithful your descendants shall be blessed with his, that they live in prosperity long upon the face of this land; and nothing, except iniquity among them, shall harm or disrupt their prosperity upon the face of this land forever.

Therefore, if you keep the commandments of the Lord, the Lord consecrates this land for the security of your descendants along with those of my son."

II Nephi 2

"And now, Jacob, I'll speak to you. You are my firstborn during my time of trial in the wilderness. Note, during your childhood you suffered affliction and a lot of sadness, because of your rude brothers.

Regardless, Jacob (my wilderness firstborn) you understand the greatness of God; and he shall apply your afflictions towards your gain.

Therefore, your soul shall be blessed, and you will live securely with your brother, Nephi. And your days shall be spent in the service of God. Therefore, I know that you are redeemed, because of the righteousness of your Redeemer; for you have beheld that in the due time he arrives to bring salvation unto men.

And you have noticed in your youth his glory. Therefore, you are blessed even as they to whom he shall minister in the flesh; for the Spirit is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. And the way is prepared from the fall of man, and salvation is free.

And men are instructed sufficiently that they can recognize good from evil. And the law is given to men. And by the law no flesh is justified (by the law men are cut off). Yes, by temporal law they were cut off; and also, by spiritual law they die from that which is good, and become eternally miserable.

Therefore, redemption arrives in and through the Holy Messiah because he is full of grace and truth.

Observe, he offered himself as the sacrifice for sin, to answer the extent of the law, to all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; and to none else can the extent of the law be fulfilled.

Therefore, how great the importance to reveal these things to the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merit, mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah, who lays down his life according to the flesh, and assumes it again by the power of the Spirit --- that he may bring about the resurrection of the dead, being the first that should rise.

Therefore, he is the firstfruits for God, in that he shall make intercession for all the children of men; and they that receive in him shall be saved.

And because of the intercession for all, all come to God. Therefore, they stand in the presence of him, to be judged by him according to the truth and holiness of him. Therefore, the extent of the law which the Holy One has provided, to the inflicting of the punishment which is attached, which punishment that is affixed is in opposition to the happiness which is affixed, to answer the ends of the atonement—

For it's necessary, that there is opposition in all things. If not so, my firstborn in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought about, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Therefore, all things must be a single mixture. Therefore, if it should be one body it must remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility.

Therefore, it must have been created for nothing. Therefore there would have been no purpose in the end of its creation. Therefore, this thing must destroy the wisdom of God and his eternal purposes, and also the power, mercy, and justice of God.

And if you shall say there is no law, you also say there is no sin. If you say there is no sin, you also say there is no righteousness. And if there be no righteousness there exists no happiness. And if there be no righteousness nor happiness there exists no punishment nor misery. And if these things don't exist, there is no God. And if there is no God we don't exist -- neither the earth. For there could have been no creation of things, neither to act nor to be acted upon. Therefore, all things would have vanished away.

And now, my sons, I tell you these things for your profit and education; for there is a God, and he created everything, both the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are, both things to act and things to be acted upon.

And to bring about his eternal purposes in the extent of man, after he had created our first parents, and the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and in short, all things created, it must be that there was opposition. Even the forbidden fruit as opposed to the tree of life --- one being sweet and the other bitter.

Therefore, the Lord God enabled man so that he should act for himself. Therefore, man could not act for himself save it should be that he was enticed by the one or the other.

And I, Lehi, according to the things which I have read, has to suppose that an angel of God (according to that which is written), had fallen from heaven; therefore, he became a devil, having sought that which was evil before God.

And because he had fallen from heaven, and had become miserable forever, he sought also the misery of all mankind. Therefore, he (yes, that old serpent, the devil, the father of all lies) said to Eve, "Eat the forbidden fruit, and you will not die, but you shall be like God, understanding good and evil.

And after Adam and Eve had eaten of the forbidden fruit they were driven out of the garden of Eden, to till the earth.

And they bore children; yes, even the family of all the earth.

And the days of the children of amen were extended, according to God's will, that they might repent while flesh. Therefore, their state became on of probation, and their time was lengthened, according to the commandments which the Lord God gave the children of men. For he commanded that all men must repent; for he demonstrated to all men that they were lost, because of their parents transgression.

And presently, realize, if Adam had not transgressed he would not have fallen, but would have remained in the garden of Eden. And all things which were created would have remained in the same state in which they were upon creation; and they would remain forever unchanged, and had no end.

And they would have remained celibate. Therefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no enjoyment, for they didn't understand misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin.

But note, all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knows everything.

Adam fell that men could exist; and men care, that they might have joy.

And the Messiah comes in due time, that he may redeem the children of men from the fall. And because they are redeemed from the fall they have become forever free, knowing good from evil; to act for themselves and not to be acted upon, except by the punishment of the law at the great and last day, according to the commandments which God has provided

Therefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are convenient to man. And they are free to select liberty and eternal life (through the great Mediator of all men) or to select captivity and death, according to that of the devil; for he desires that all men be miserable like unto himself.

And now, my sons, I would that you should look to the great Mediator, and obey his great commandments; and be faithful to what he says, and choose eternal life, according to the will of his Holy Spirit;

And not select eternal death, according to the will of the flesh and its evil, which provides the spirit of the devil power of captivation, to bring you to hell, that he may rule over you in his own kingdom.

I have said a few things to each of you, my sons, in the last days of my test; and I have selected the good portion, according to the words of the prophet. And I have no other objective except it be the eternal welfare of your souls. So be it."

The only thing I'm revealing is that what the book of Mormon teaches isn't Biblical. It is essentially pagan disguised in a thin King James cloak.

Ether Chapter one verse 41 reads a bit differently from the Book of Mormon Printer's Manuscript.

[41] Go to and gather together thy flocks, both male and female, of every kind; and also of the seed of the earth of every kind; and thy families; and also Jared thy brother and his family; and also thy friends and their families, and the friends of Jared and their families.

Go to & gather togeth thy flocks both male & female of every kind also of the seed of the earth of every kind & thy family & also Jared thy brother & his family & also <also> thy friends & their families & the friends of Jared & their families

Since LittleNipper hasn't been here in a bit, I will do 2nd Nephi Chapter 3.

Chapter 3
Joseph in Egypt saw the Nephites in vision—He prophesied of Joseph Smith, the latter-day seer; of Moses, who would deliver Israel; and of the coming forth of the Book of Mormon. About 588–570 B.C.

1 And now I speak unto you, Joseph, my last-born. Thou wast born in the wilderness of mine afflictions; yea, in the days of my greatest sorrow did thy mother bear thee.

2 And may the Lord consecrate also unto thee this land, which is a most precious land, for thine inheritance and the inheritance of thy seed with thy brethren, for thy security forever, if it so be that ye shall keep the commandments of the Holy One of Israel.

3 And now, Joseph, my last-born, whom I have brought out of the wilderness of mine afflictions, may the Lord bless thee forever, for thy seed shall not utterly be destroyed.

4 For behold, thou art the fruit of my loins; and I am a descendant of Joseph who was carried captive into Egypt. And great were the covenants of the Lord which he made unto Joseph.

5 Wherefore, Joseph truly saw our day. And he obtained a promise of the Lord, that out of the fruit of his loins the Lord God would raise up a righteous branch unto the house of Israel; not the Messiah, but a branch which was to be broken off, nevertheless, to be remembered in the covenants of the Lord that the Messiah should be made manifest unto them in the latter days, in the spirit of power, unto the bringing of them out of darkness unto light—yea, out of hidden darkness and out of captivity unto freedom.

6 For Joseph truly testified, saying: A seer shall the Lord my God raise up, who shall be a choice seer unto the fruit of my loins.

7 Yea, Joseph truly said: Thus saith the Lord unto me: A choice seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins; and he shall be esteemed highly among the fruit of thy loins. And unto him will I give commandment that he shall do a work for the fruit of thy loins, his brethren, which shall be of great worth unto them, even to the bringing of them to the knowledge of the covenants which I have made with thy fathers.

8 And I will give unto him a commandment that he shall do none other work, save the work which I shall command him. And I will make him great in mine eyes; for he shall do my work.

9 And he shall be great like unto Moses, whom I have said I would raise up unto you, to deliver my people, O house of Israel.

10 And Moses will I raise up, to deliver thy people out of the land of Egypt.

11 But a seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins; and unto him will I give power to bring forth my word unto the seed of thy loins—and not to the bringing forth my word only, saith the Lord, but to the convincing them of my word, which shall have already gone forth among them.

12 Wherefore, the fruit of thy loins shall write; and the fruit of the loins of Judah shall write; and that which shall be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together, unto the confounding of false doctrines and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing them to the knowledge of their fathers in the latter days, and also to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord.

13 And out of weakness he shall be made strong, in that day when my work shall commence among all my people, unto the restoring thee, O house of Israel, saith the Lord.

14 And thus prophesied Joseph, saying: Behold, that seer will the Lord bless; and they that seek to destroy him shall be confounded; for this promise, which I have obtained of the Lord, of the fruit of my loins, shall be fulfilled. Behold, I am sure of the fulfilling of this promise;

15 And his name shall be called after me; and it shall be after the name of his father. And he shall be like unto me; for the thing, which the Lord shall bring forth by his hand, by the power of the Lord shall bring my people unto salvation.

16 Yea, thus prophesied Joseph: I am sure of this thing, even as I am sure of the promise of Moses; for the Lord hath said unto me, I will preserve thy seed forever.

17 And the Lord hath said: I will raise up a Moses; and I will give power unto him in a rod; and I will give judgment unto him in writing. Yet I will not loose his tongue, that he shall speak much, for I will not make him mighty in speaking. But I will write unto him my law, by the finger of mine own hand; and I will make a spokesman for him.

18 And the Lord said unto me also: I will raise up unto the fruit of thy loins; and I will make for him a spokesman. And I, behold, I will give unto him that he shall write the writing of the fruit of thy loins, unto the fruit of thy loins; and the spokesman of thy loins shall declare it.

19 And the words which he shall write shall be the words which are expedient in my wisdom should go forth unto the fruit of thy loins. And it shall be as if the fruit of thy loins had cried unto them from the dust; for I know their faith.

20 And they shall cry from the dust; yea, even repentance unto their brethren, even after many generations have gone by them. And it shall come to pass that their cry shall go, even according to the simpleness of their words.

21 Because of their faith their words shall proceed forth out of my mouth unto their brethren who are the fruit of thy loins; and the weakness of their words will I make strong in their faith, unto the remembering of my covenant which I made unto thy fathers.

22 And now, behold, my son Joseph, after this manner did my father of old prophesy.

23 Wherefore, because of this covenant thou art blessed; for thy seed shall not be destroyed, for they shall hearken unto the words of the book.

24 And there shall rise up one mighty among them, who shall do much good, both in word and in deed, being an instrument in the hands of God, with exceeding faith, to work mighty wonders, and do that thing which is great in the sight of God, unto the bringing to pass much restoration unto the house of Israel, and unto the seed of thy brethren.

25 And now, blessed art thou, Joseph. Behold, thou art little; wherefore hearken unto the words of thy brother, Nephi, and it shall be done unto thee even according to the words which I have spoken. Remember the words of thy dying father. Amen.

Who was Joseph of Egypt?

1. Joseph was the first son of Rachel, Jacob’s favorite wife. While in Paddan-aram, Jacob saw and loved Rachel, and arranged to work seven years for her (Gen 29:17, 18). Laban, her father, gave Leah, his oldest daughter, to Jacob, insisting that custom demanded that the oldest daughter be married first. Jacob worked seven more years for Rachel. Leah, however, bore children, but Rachel was barren until the birth of Joseph. As the first son of the favorite wife, Jacob was partial to Joseph. Evidence of this is seen in the coat which he gave to Joseph, alone, of all his sons (Gen 37:3). The antagonism of Joseph’s brothers grew when Joseph told them of dreams which he had, suggesting that they, along with his father and mother, would one day bow before him. When Joseph was seventeen years old, his father sent him to Shechem to inquire about the welfare of his brothers. They had gone on to Dothan, where Joseph found them. The brothers saw him approaching and determined to kill him, but Reuben, the oldest son of Jacob, persuaded his brothers to spare the life of Joseph and instead to cast him into a pit. Reuben hoped to rescue Joseph from the pit, but before he could do so a company of Ishmaelite merchants passed. While Reuben was away, the other brothers sold Joseph as a slave to the Ishmaelites who took him to Egypt. The brothers then dipped Joseph’s coat in the blood of a goat, and told their father that they had found his blood-soaked coat. Jacob concluded that a wild animal had killed Joseph.

In Egypt, Joseph was sold to the captain of Pharaoh’s guard, Potiphar. As a trustworthy worker, Joseph was given a responsible position. Potiphar’s wife was attracted to Joseph and attempted to seduce him. When Joseph spurned her advances, she accused him of being the aggressor, with the result that he was imprisoned for several years.

In prison, Joseph again proved himself worthy of a position of trust. He interpreted the dreams of the chief butler and the chief baker, the first of whom was restored to Pharaoh’s confidence, and the second, beheaded. After two years Pharaoh had a dream, and the chief butler remembered how Joseph had correctly interpreted the dreams. Joseph was sent for, and he explained that the Pharaoh’s dreams foretold seven years of plenty, to be followed by seven years of famine. Pharaoh was so impressed with Joseph that he appointed him superintendent of the royal granaries. Joseph was now second in rank to Pharaoh himself (Gen 41:39-44). He married Asenath, daughter of a priestly family at On (Heliopolis). Before the famine began, Joseph had two sons: Manasseh, and Ephraim. When the famine came, the entire world of the eastern Mediterranean lands suffered, but Joseph’s advice saved Egypt. Joseph’s brothers came from Canaan to buy food, but they did not recognize him. He recognized them, however, and questioned them closely concerning their family. The welfare of Jacob, his father, and Benjamin, his full brother who had remained at home, was his prime concern. Keeping Simeon as a hostage, Joseph permitted his brothers to return home. On their second visit they brought along Benjamin, and Joseph plotted to find an excuse to keep Benjamin with him. Joseph ordered that a silver cup be placed in Benjamin’s bag. This was done and Joseph then sent his men after the caravan to search for the supposed thief. When the cup was found in Benjamin’s bag, all returned. Judah, however, insisted that Benjamin must return home. Jacob had lost his favorite son already, and the loss of the second child of the beloved Rachel would be too much for him. Judah offered to remain himself if Benjamin were permitted to go with his brothers home to Jacob. Years before the brothers had been jealous of Joseph to the point that they were prepared to kill him. Now, however, they were willing to indulge their father in his special love for Benjamin. Joseph was so moved at Judah’s words that he could contain his emotions no longer. He ordered his courtiers out of the room, and revealed himself to his brothers. They were frightened, feeling that he would seek revenge for their treatment of him, but he assured them that he saw the hand of God in all that had happened. Joseph urged them to bring their father and settle in the eastern delta region of Egypt—in the land of Goshen. Jacob, who had difficulty believing that Joseph was really alive, joined his sons in moving down to Egypt. They were settled near Joseph’s palace and enjoyed a favored position. Jacob thus died a happy man. Joseph lived to the age of 110—the ideal life span in Egyp. thought. At the Exodus, the mumified remains of Joseph were taken from Egypt and, following the Conquest, they were buried at Shechem (Exod 13:19; Josh 24:32).

Was BofM Ishmael a descendant of Joseph's son Ephraim?

Now, if Ephraim has been scattered and has mixed himself with the people until their identity is lost among the nations, how are they going to be recognized and receive the promised blessings—how is it that Ephraim shall be the firstborn of the Lord in the great gathering of the latter days? If we turn back to the blessing which Moses gave to the twelve tribes of Israel as found in Deuteronomy, we shall there see that in blessing the tribe of Joseph, he especially charged them with the duty of gathering the people from the ends of the earth. Said he, Joseph's horns are like the horns of unicorns, which shall push the people together from the ends of the earth, and they are the thousands of Manasseh and ten thousands of Ephraim; showing that it shall be the ten thousands of Ephraim and thousands of Manasseh who shall be in the foremost ranks of bearing the Gospel message to the ends of the earth, and gathering Israel from the four quarters of the world in the last days. Whoever has read the Book of Mormon carefully will have learned that the remnants of the house of Joseph dwelt upon the American continent; and that Lehi learned by searching the records of his fathers that were written upon the plates of brass, that he was of the lineage of Manasseh. The Prophet Joseph informed us that the record of Lehi, was contained on the 116 pages that were first translated and subsequently stolen, and of which an abridgement is given us in the first Book of Nephi, which is the record of Nephi individually, he himself being of the lineage of Manasseh; but that Ishmael was of the lineage of Ephraim, and that his sons married into Lehi's family, and Lehi's sons married Ishmael's daughters, thus fulfilling the words of Jacob upon Ephraim and Manasseh in the 48th chapter of Genesis, which says: “And let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the land.” Thus these descendants of Manasseh and Ephraim grew together upon this American continent, with a sprinkling from the house of Judah, from Mulek descended, who left Jerusalem eleven years after Lehi, and founded the colony afterwards known as Zarahemla and found by Mosiah—thus making a combination, an intermixture of Ephraim and Manasseh with the remnants of Judah; and for aught we know, the remnants of some other tribes that might have accompanied Mulek.

II Nephi 3

"And now I speak to you, Joseph, my last-born. You were born in the wilderness of my afflictions. Yes, in the days of my greatest sorrow did your mother bear you.

And may the Lord consecrate also to you this land, which is a very precious land, for your inheritance and the inheritance of your descendants with your brothers, for your protection forever, if you shall keep the commandments of the Holy One of Israel.

And now, Joseph, my last-born, whom I have brought out of the wilderness of my afflictions, may the Lord bless you forever, for your descendants shall not be entirely destroyed.

For note, you are the fruit of my loins; and I am a descendant of Joseph who was carried captive into Egypt. And great were the covenants of the Lord which he made to Joseph.

Therefore, Joseph truly saw our day. And he gained a promise of the Lord, that out of the fruit of his loins the Lord God would raise up a righteous branch to the house of Israel; not the Messiah, but a branch which was to be broken off, nevertheless, to be remembered in the covenants of the Lord that the Messiah should be revealed to them in latter times, in the spirit of power, to bringing them out of darkness unto light—yes, out of hidden darkness and out of captivity to freedom.

For Joseph truly testified, saying, "A prophet shall the Lord my God raise up, who shall be a select prophet towards my descendants.

Yes, Joseph actually said, "This the Lord said to me, 'A select prophet will I raise up from your descendants; and he shall be revered among your descendants . And to him will I command that he shall work for your descendants, his brothers, which shall be profitable to them, even to the bringing them to the knowledge of the covenants which I have made with your ancestors.

And I will command him that he shall do no other work, save that which I command him. And I will make him great in my eyes; for he shall do my work.

And he shall be great like Moses, whom I have said I would raise up to you, to deliver my people, Israel.

And Moses will I establish, to deliver your people out of the land of Egypt.

But a prophet will I raise up out of your descendants; and to him will I give power to bring my word to your descendants—and not merely bringing my word only,' saith the Lord, 'but to the convincing them of my word, which shall have already gone forth among them.

Therefore, your descendants shall record; and the descendants of Judah shall record; and that which shall be written by your descendants, and also that which shall be written by that of Judah, shall merge, to the confounding of false doctrines and creating contention, and peace among your descendants, and bringing them to the knowledge of their ancestors in the latter days, and also to the knowledge of my covenants," says the Lord.

"And out of weakness he shall be made strong, at that time when my work shall commence among all my people, to restoring the house of Israel," says the Lord.

And so Joseph prophesied, saying, "Note, that prophet will the Lord bless; and they that seek to destroy him shall be confused; for this promise, which I have obtained of the Lord, among my descendants, shall be fulfilled. Note, I am sure of the fulfilling of this promise;

And his name shall be called after me; and it shall be after the name of his father. And he shall be like unto me; for the thing, which the Lord shall bring forth by his hand, by the power of the Lord shall bring my people unto salvation.

Yes, so prophesied Joseph, "I am sure of this thing, even as I am sure of the promise of Moses; for the Lord has said to me, 'I will preserve descendants forever."

And the Lord said, "I will raise up a Moses; and give power to him in a rod; and I will give judgment to him in writing. Yet I will not loose his tongue, that he shall speak a lot, for I will not make him mighty in speaking. But I will write to him my law, by the finger of my own hand; and I will make a spokesman for him."

And the Lord said to me also, "I will raise up among your descendants; and I will make for him a spokesman. And notice, I will give to him that he shall write the writing of your descendants, to your descendants; and the spokesman of your descendants shall declare it.

And the words which he shall write shall be the words which are expedient in my wisdom should go out to your descendants. And it shall be as if they had cried unto them from the dust; for I know their faith.

And they shall cry from the dust; yes, even repentance to their brothers, even after many generations have past. And it shall happen that their cry shall go, even according to the simpleness of their words.

Because of their faith their words shall proceed from my mouth to their brothers who are your descendants; and the weakness of their words will I make strong in their faith, to the remembering of my covenant which I made to your ancestors.

And now, note, my son Joseph, in this way did my father of old prophesy.

Therefore, because of this covenant you are blessed; for your descendants shall not be destroyed, for they shall obey the words of the book.

And there shall arise one mighty among them, who shall do a lot of good, both in word and in deed, being an instrument in the hands of God, with a lot of faith, to work mighty wonders, and do that thing which is great in the sight of God, towards bringing restoration to Israel, and the descendants of your brothers.

And now, blessed are you, Joseph. Note, you are small; therefore, listen to you brother, Nephi, and it shall be done to you according to that which I have spoken. Remember the words of your dying father. So be it."

I am doing just the first 16 verses of 2nd Nephi Chapter 4.

Chapter 4
Lehi counsels and blesses his posterity—He dies and is buried—Nephi glories in the goodness of God—Nephi puts his trust in the Lord forever. About 588–570 B.C.

1 And now, I, Nephi, speak concerning the prophecies of which my father hath spoken, concerning Joseph, who was carried into Egypt.

2 For behold, he truly prophesied concerning all his seed. And the prophecies which he wrote, there are not many greater. And he prophesied concerning us, and our future generations; and they are written upon the plates of brass.

3 Wherefore, after my father had made an end of speaking concerning the prophecies of Joseph, he called the children of Laman, his sons, and his daughters, and said unto them: Behold, my sons, and my daughters, who are the sons and the daughters of my firstborn, I would that ye should give ear unto my words.

4 For the Lord God hath said that: Inasmuch as ye shall keep my commandments ye shall prosper in the land; and inasmuch as ye will not keep my commandments ye shall be cut off from my presence.

5 But behold, my sons and my daughters, I cannot go down to my grave save I should leave a blessing upon you; for behold, I know that if ye are brought up in the way ye should go ye will not depart from it.

6 Wherefore, if ye are cursed, behold, I leave my blessing upon you, that the cursing may be taken from you and be answered upon the heads of your parents.

7 Wherefore, because of my blessing the Lord God will not suffer that ye shall perish; wherefore, he will be merciful unto you and unto your seed forever.

8 And it came to pass that after my father had made an end of speaking to the sons and daughters of Laman, he caused the sons and daughters of Lemuel to be brought before him.

9 And he spake unto them, saying: Behold, my sons and my daughters, who are the sons and the daughters of my second son; behold I leave unto you the same blessing which I left unto the sons and daughters of Laman; wherefore, thou shalt not utterly be destroyed; but in the end thy seed shall be blessed.

10 And it came to pass that when my father had made an end of speaking unto them, behold, he spake unto the sons of Ishmael, yea, and even all his household.

11 And after he had made an end of speaking unto them, he spake unto Sam, saying: Blessed art thou, and thy seed; for thou shalt inherit the land like unto thy brother Nephi. And thy seed shall be numbered with his seed; and thou shalt be even like unto thy brother, and thy seed like unto his seed; and thou shalt be blessed in all thy days.

12 And it came to pass after my father, Lehi, had spoken unto all his household, according to the feelings of his heart and the Spirit of the Lord which was in him, he waxed old. And it came to pass that he died, and was buried.

13 And it came to pass that not many days after his death, Laman and Lemuel and the sons of Ishmael were angry with me because of the admonitions of the Lord.

14 For I, Nephi, was constrained to speak unto them, according to his word; for I had spoken many things unto them, and also my father, before his death; many of which sayings are written upon mine other plates; for a more history part are written upon mine other plates.

15 And upon these I write the things of my soul, and many of the scriptures which are engraven upon the plates of brass. For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them, and writeth them for the learning and the profit of my children.

16 Behold, my soul delighteth in the things of the Lord; and my heart pondereth continually upon the things which I have seen and heard.

2 Nephi 4

And presently, I, Nephi, speak concerning the prophecies of which my dad has spoken, regarding Joseph, who was taken to Egypt.

Notice, he truly prophesied concerning all descendants. And the prophecies which he wrote, there are not many greater. And he prophesied concerning us, and our future generations; and they are written upon the brass plates.

Therefore, after my dad had finished with regard to the prophecies of Joseph, he called the children of Laman (both sons and daughters), and said to them, "Realize, my sons, and daughters (being the sons and the daughters of my firstborn) I would that you would listen to my words.

For the Lord God has said, For as much as you shall keep my commandments you shall prosper in the land; and for as much as disregard my commandments you shall be separated from my presence.

But notice, my sons and my daughters, I cannot die without leaving a blessing with you; notice, I realize that if you are raised in the way you should go you will not depart from it.

Therefore, if you are cursed, notice, I leave my blessing with you, that the cursing may be removed from you and held against your parents.

Therefore, because of my blessing the Lord God will not allow you to perish. Therefore, he will be merciful to you and your descendants eternally."

And it happened that once my dad finished speaking to the sons and daughters of Laman, he insisted that sons and daughters of Lemuel to be brought to him.

And he spoke to them, saying, "Notice, my sons and my daughters, who are of my second son; note that I leave to you the same blessing which I left to Laman's sons and daughters. Therefore, you will not be utterly destroyed, but in the end your seed shall be blessed.

And it occurred that when my dad had finished speaking to them, note that he spoke to the sons of Ishmael, yes, and that entire household.

And after he had finished peaking to them, he spoke to Sam -- saying, "Blessed are you, and your descendants; for you will inherit the land just like your brother Nephi. And your descendants will be counted with his descendants; and you will be like your brother, and your descendants like his. And you will be blessed your entire life.

And it occurred after my dad, Lehi, had spoke to all his household (according to the feelings of his heart and the Spirit of the Lord which was in him) he grew feeble. And so he died, and was buried.

And it happened that shortly after his death, Laman and Lemuel and the sons of Ishmael were angry with me because of the Lord's admonitions.

For I, Nephi, was forced to speak to them, according to his word (for I had said many things to them, as did my father, before his death) many of these sayings are written upon my other plates (for additional historical segments are written upon my other plates).

And upon these I write the things of my soul, and many of the scriptures which are etched upon the brass plates. For my soul delights in the scriptures, and my heart ponders them, and writes them for the education and profit of my children.

Notice, my soul delights in the things of the Lord; and my heart ponders continually upon the things which I have seen and heard.

Nevertheless, in spite of the great goodness of the Lord, in showing me his great and wondrous works, my heart shouted, "O wretched man that I am! Yes, my heart frets because of my flesh ---my soul grieves because of my sins.

I am surrounded, because of the temptations and the sins which so easily oppress me.

And when I wish to rejoice, my heart groans because of my sins; nevertheless, I know in whom I have trusted.

20 My God hath been my asupport; he hath led me through mine bafflictions in the wilderness; and he hath preserved me upon the waters of the great deep.

He has filled me with his love, even to the consumption of my flesh.

He has confused my enemies, causing them to quake before me.

Note, he hath heard my cry daily, and he has given me knowledge through visions during the night.

And by day have I become bold in fervent prayer before him. Yes, my voice have I lifted up; and angels came down and ministered to me.

And upon the wings of his Spirit hath my body been acarried away upon exceedingly high mountains. And mine eyes have beheld great things, yea, even too great for man; therefore I was bidden that I should not write them.

Oh then, if I have observed so great things, if the Lord in his condescension to the children of men has visited men in so much mercy, why should my heart weep and my soul linger in sorrow's valley, and my flesh waste away, and my strength slacken, because of my problems?

And why should I yield to sin, because of my flesh? Yes, why should I permit temptations, that the evil one has place in my heart to destroy my peace and afflict my soul? Why am I angry because of my enemy?

Awake, my soul! No longer faint in sin. Rejoice, Oh my heart, and give no place ever again for my soul's enemy.

Do not anger again because of my enemies. Do not slacken my strength because of my problems.

Rejoice, Oh my heart, and cry to the Lord, and say, "Oh Lord, I will praise you eternally. Yes, my soul will rejoice in you, my God, and the foundation of my salvation.

Oh Lord, will you redeem my soul? Will you deliver me out of the hands of my enemies? Will you make me shake at the presence of sin?

May the gates of hell be shut continually before me, because my heart is broken and my spirit is remorseful! Oh Lord, will you not close the gates of your righteousness before me, that I may walk in the path of the low valley --- that I may be steadfast to the simple road!

Oh Lord, you wrap me in the cloak of your righteousness! Oh Lord, you make a way for my escape from my enemies! You straighten the path ahead of me! May you not place tripping hazards in my way—but that you would clear my way before me, and not obstruct my way, but the ways of my enemy.

Oh Lord, I have trusted in you, and I will trust in you eternally. I will not put my trust in human endeavors; for I know that cursed is he that places his trust in human endeavors. Yes, cursed is he that puts his trust in man or makes human endeavor his motivation.

Yes, I know that God will give richly to him that requests. Yes, my God will give me, if I ask not inappropriately; therefore, I will lift up my voice unto you. Yes, I will cry to you, my God, the foundation of my righteousness. Note, my voice will eternally ascend up to you, my foundation and everlasting God. So be it.

Here are the first 16 verses of 2nd Nephi Chapter 5.

Chapter 5
The Nephites separate themselves from the Lamanites, keep the law of Moses, and build a temple—Because of their unbelief, the Lamanites are cut off from the presence of the Lord, are cursed, and become a scourge unto the Nephites. About 588–559 B.C.

1 Behold, it came to pass that I, Nephi, did cry much unto the Lord my God, because of the anger of my brethren.

2 But behold, their anger did increase against me, insomuch that they did seek to take away my life.

3 Yea, they did murmur against me, saying: Our younger brother thinks to rule over us; and we have had much trial because of him; wherefore, now let us slay him, that we may not be afflicted more because of his words. For behold, we will not have him to be our ruler; for it belongs unto us, who are the elder brethren, to rule over this people.

4 Now I do not write upon these plates all the words which they murmured against me. But it sufficeth me to say, that they did seek to take away my life.

5 And it came to pass that the Lord did warn me, that I, Nephi, should depart from them and flee into the wilderness, and all those who would go with me.

6 Wherefore, it came to pass that I, Nephi, did take my family, and also Zoram and his family, and Sam, mine elder brother and his family, and Jacob and Joseph, my younger brethren, and also my sisters, and all those who would go with me. And all those who would go with me were those who believed in the warnings and the revelations of God; wherefore, they did hearken unto my words.

7 And we did take our tents and whatsoever things were possible for us, and did journey in the wilderness for the space of many days. And after we had journeyed for the space of many days we did pitch our tents.

8 And my people would that we should call the name of the place Nephi; wherefore, we did call it Nephi.

9 And all those who were with me did take upon them to call themselves the people of Nephi.

10 And we did observe to keep the judgments, and the statutes, and the commandments of the Lord in all things, according to the law of Moses.

11 And the Lord was with us; and we did prosper exceedingly; for we did sow seed, and we did reap again in abundance. And we began to raise flocks, and herds, and animals of every kind.

12 And I, Nephi, had also brought the records which were engraven upon the plates of brass; and also the ball, or compass, which was prepared for my father by the hand of the Lord, according to that which is written.

13 And it came to pass that we began to prosper exceedingly, and to multiply in the land.

14 And I, Nephi, did take the sword of Laban, and after the manner of it did make many swords, lest by any means the people who were now called Lamanites should come upon us and destroy us; for I knew their hatred towards me and my children and those who were called my people.

15 And I did teach my people to build buildings, and to work in all manner of wood, and of iron, and of copper, and of brass, and of steel, and of gold, and of silver, and of precious ores, which were in great abundance.

16 And I, Nephi, did build a temple; and I did construct it after the manner of the temple of Solomon save it were not built of so many precious things; for they were not to be found upon the land, wherefore, it could not be built like unto Solomon’s temple. But the manner of the construction was like unto the temple of Solomon; and the workmanship thereof was exceedingly fine.

After the manner of the temple of Solomon???

Solomon's Temple

According to the Hebrew Bible, Solomon's Temple, also known as the First Temple, was the Holy Temple (בֵּית־הַמִּקְדָּשׁ: Beit HaMikdash) in ancient Jerusalem before its destruction by Nebuchadnezzar II after the Siege of Jerusalem of 587 BCE and its subsequent replacement with the Second Temple in 516 BCE. The period in which the First Temple presumably, or actually, stood in Jerusalem, is known in academic literature as the First Temple period (c.1000–586 BCE).[1]

The Hebrew Bible states the temple was constructed under Solomon, king of the United Kingdom of Israel and Judah and that during the Kingdom of Judah, the temple was dedicated to Yahweh. During different periods of its operation, Asherah, Baal, the host of heaven and a solar deity were also worshipped in the high places. Temple worship included ritual sacrifice and ritual cleanings. It is said to have housed the Ark of the Covenant. The Jewish historian Josephus says; "the temple was burnt four hundred and seventy years, six months, and ten days after it was built".[2] This seems to be confirmed by very recent rare finds of abandoned jewellery, evidence of burnt stones and arrowheads dating from the Babylonian period.[3]

Because of the religious sensitivities involved, and the politically volatile situation in Jerusalem, only limited archaeological surveys of the Temple Mount have been conducted. In modern times, the Israel Antiquities Authority took advantage of a Waqf project to lay an electric cable in order to conduct a partial excavation, during which artifacts dating to the late first temple period were discovered in situ for the first time.[4]. In parallel, a massive project is currently underway to sort rubble created when Jordan's Waqf dug new entrances on the mount, potentially destroying a great deal of ancient material in what has been called "an archaeological crime".[5]

An ivory pomegranate which mentions priests in the house "of ---h", and an inscription recording the Temple's restoration under Jehoash have both appeared on the antiquities market, but their authenticity has been challenged, and they are subjects of controversy.

The Bible describes Hiram I of Tyre who furnished architects, workmen and cedar timbers for the temple of his ally Solomon at Jerusalem. He also co-operated with Solomon in mounting an expedition on the Red Sea. 1 Kings 6:1 puts the date of the beginning of building the temple "in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel". The conventional dates of Solomon's reign are circa 970 to 931 BCE. This puts the date of its construction in the mid-10th century BCE.[33] 1 Kings 9:10 says that it took Solomon 20 years altogether to build the Temple and his royal palace. The Temple itself finished being built after 7 years.[34]
