I suppose the more of his friends he's around, the higher the density.

But, Sub is right to offer race as a factor. In the US, diabetes incidence is highest among mainland and Alaska natives, followed by black and Hispanic folks, followed by non-Hispanic white folks, with Asians having the lowest incidence. The folks who study this stuff are pretty confident that obesity is a significant cause of type 2 diabetes, and the racial/ethnic incidence of obesity looks similar that of diabetes. Obesity itself, however, is influenced by a number of different factors including genetic, economic and social differences. Maybe there are studies in the literature that examine which factors are the most significant, but I haven’t looked.

Outside of Florida, the southern part of the country that also is the most overweight part of the country is relatively young.

Here is a ranking of states by population density.

https://state.1keydata.com/state-population-density.php

As anyone familiar with the United States would guess, the top is dominated by the North East. North Carolina is the first southern state to appear at 15. The southern states that overlap with high rates of obesity - Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, etc. - rank relatively low.

Cool how you did research for individual States while everyone else is talking about Regions....yea, cool.

Apparently subs read neither the OP, nor the title of the thread.
