MI Medicaid Work Requirements

Post by _EAllusion »

MI Republicans figured out a pretty clever way to ensure that predominately white/Republican areas would be exempted from their new Medicaid work requirements, but not predominantly black/Democrat areas. It provides a stipulation that if you reside in a county with over 8.5% unemployment, you are exempt from the requirements. It just so happens that predominantly black/Democrat populations tend to live in cities that have highish unemployment, but counties with wealthy suburban areas that bring the unemployment rate underneath that threshhold. Meanwhile, poor whites/Republicans tend to live in rural counties that fall over that line. Several of the legislators backing the bill represent predominately white, Republican areas with high unemployment that will be exempted from the requirements.

What will they do now? Have to a work for a living? That should be a civil rights violation. It contradicts the the principles of social justice. You shouldn't be able to discriminate against people just because they're not willing to work.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Have you considered getting an eye exam?

This story is not about Medicaid work requirements as a concept. Whether or not that is justified or sound is bracketed in this story. This story is about how MI Republicans found a way to exempt areas of the state from those requirements in such a way that the requirements have a heavy disproportionate hit on black and Democrat users of MA, but not white and Republican users of MA.

If you want to justify partisan and racial discrimination in who may receive MA, go for it.

There is some logic to that idea. It is much more likely that people can find a job in areas with vacancies and it is better than the usual Republican blanket statement of "let them eat cake".
