Trump and video game violence

Post by _moksha »

A few weeks back Trump held a White House meeting to discuss regulating the violence of video games. Trump presented to the game representative attendees a video on video game violence, as part of his response to mass shootings with assault rifles. On this video, there was a clip of Fallout 4 and other video games that involve shooting with a variety of weapons including assault rifles.

My question is this: Why show video violence committed with assault rifles when you are trying to deflect blame from real life assault rifles. Wouldn't it have made more sense showing Skyrim's Dragonborn hurling fireballs at unsuspecting bandits? It would be more dramatic and would better shift the emphasis away from guns.

Even the NRA could get behind regulating the use fireballs, and possibly explosive runes. They could point to that as a positive action to curb violence and they could add that fireballs are not protected as part of a well-regulated militia.

Once the public realizes that video games and their usage of destruction magic is responsible for the poopload of mass shootings at schools and elsewhere, they can ease off on the call for assault rifle bans and other restrictions that would hamper gun sales.

Just hope the Supreme Court does not choose to grant citizenship to extremely wealthy Sloads, and the denizens from the realm of Oblivion, such as Atronachs and Dremora just because they would self-identify as Republicans.

One the experts on video game violence Trump had in was someone known to civil libertarian circles as a popular traveling police trainer who does his best to encourage police to shoot more people. He has famously taught police that they'll have the best sex they ever had after shooting a civilian. This person is 1) viewed as an expert on the effects on video game violence despite no actual expertise and 2) somehow on the side that video games unacceptably encourage violent behavior as someone famous for unacceptably encouraging violent behavior for real.

Violent video games allow the loners to socialize and make friends online (multi-player live). And Trump wants to take them away.
