China Banning Non-Electric Cars

Post by _Gunnar »

China is taking climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions more seriously than almost any other country. Trump and many Republicans opposed to acknowledging and addressing the reality of human caused climate change try to use the excuse that China, which has now surpassed even the USA in greenhouse gas emissions (due mainly to its 4 time greater population and rapid industrialization), was supposedly given an unfair pass on having to immediately doing anything about it. The fact is, though, that no nation on earth is doing more about curbing their emissions and planning for a greener economy less dependent on fossil fuels than China.

China is taking steps now to phase out and ban non-electric powered cars entirely. Since the Chinese proportion of the world's automobile market is approaching one third of the world's total, this is huge! Nothing could be more short-sighted than for the USA to refuse to compete with China and the rest of the world in green technologies, including the promoting and production of electric cars. If we fall behind in this, it will very soon prove to be ruinous for our economy and jobs creation, regardless of what is true or not true about global warming!

Opposing action on climate change and weaning ourselves off our current dependence on fossil fuels at the behest of the Koch Brothers and the fossil fuel industry, who have successfully (so far) bought out our leading politicians and lawmakers, is not just dumb, it is positively criminal!

No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

I think you meant non-electric powered cars will be banned. Other than that I wholeheartedly agree.

 you're right, CCC. I have corrected my original post. Thanks for catching that!

Er, yes. Not getting the US into pole position here is hardly nationalist economics, is it?

People who represent dying and dirty technologies are however swamping politics with their money, hoping they can buy time while the game is still making them money. But in the long run they are doing harm to the US as it gets left behind in the race to the future ...

Even India is getting into the electric car movement. That makes with China some Billion potential customers. Not including European car manufacturers.

Yes! For the U.S government to refuse to promote similar initiatives and not encourage U.S. industry to take the lead in developments like this, while continuing to to push and subsidize the extraction and use of coal and oil at the behest of the Koch brothers and the fossil fuel industry is spectacularly stupid and potentially economically ruinous to the whole nation -- even including the fossil fuel companies themselves, ultimately!

Yes! Even the companies now heavily committed to the production and use of fossil fuels are going to be seriously hurting if they don't start switching to the development and marketing of green energy and technologies. A few of them are already beginning to see the writing on the wall and jumping into the green energy movement.

Pretty tricky, eh? According to Trump, the Chinese are behind the whole global warming conspiracy, so this must be a brilliant misdirection play on their part.

Those Tricksy Chinese just lowered my last month's electric bill to $1.11. A month where I had to run my air conditioner 24 hours per day for three weeks in a row.

Hopefully it won't be too much longer before denial of human caused climate change and opposition to green energy initiatives will be widely recognized as every bit as stupid as promoting belief in the flat earth and/or geocentric universe concepts.

Obviously Trump and his fossil fuel company supporters don't care, and are only concerned with keeping the gravy train from the extraction and sale of fossil fuels going as long as possible, or at least until what remains of their own lives, as it doesn't matter to them what happens to the rest of the world and its people after they (Trump and his cronies) are safely in their graves.
