Does anyone know if Joseph Smith Jr. was acting editor of "The Times and Seasons" in 1842?

Not sure, but most discussion happens in the terrestrial forum. You would get more responses there since not much happens here and many forget to look here.

There are a few posters there who are very knowledgeable and will probably give you a lot of information to go over.

Yes, he was. He would sign his articles -ED


Joseph took over as editor of the T&S on the 2 March 1842: "I read the proof of the Times and Seasons, as editor for the first time, No. 9, Vol. III." He turned over editing to John Taylor in November, 1842.
