Correct, you don't get it. You see, to the Kwakus of the world, believing the unbelievable, even the objectively refutable, is the game. The more absurd, the more unbelievable it is, the better. Because if they can still perform the mental gymnastics and believe, this proves they are truly special. Ironically, they're right. Even with Mormonism being fiction, they are in fact one out of a million. They're elite, in a sense. And that eliteness carries a positive social feedback in the tribe.

You're certainly right, the problem with that reasoning is that once you go down that path, David Koresh might be a truer prophet than Russell Nelson. After all, it takes more faith to believe it. The Mixed Christian/UFO cult might be the true church. If more faith is better then maybe we can show how devoted we are to God by believing up is down and 2x2=5. When you ride that train to its destination, everything becomes nonsense and I'm just surprised and sad that more can't see it.
