It's interesting to point out the infinite differences between Joseph Smith and his successors when it comes to claiming revelations pertaining to mysterious things using so-called gifts of the Spirit. First Presidencies following Smith are lackluster and empty -- prophets who don't prophesy, seers who see not, and revelators who reveal nothing. Just look at the amazing claims of Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery! Compare that with the First Presidency today and there is simply no comparison. Tommy Boy Monson was constantly quoting poetry and telling insipid stories about widows and orphans. Nelson and his cronies are flying around the world like rock stars having their rings (asses) kissed by groupies.
I'd love to tell Nelson to his face that he's a fake and rebuke him.
John Gee's futile attempts to separate the Alphabet & Grammar from Joseph Smith demonstrates the clear differences Joseph Smith's Egyptology is from John Gee's. Smith and Gee are not going to agree on anything when it comes to translating the Egyptian language. I think it's fair to say that John Gee is Joseph Smith's enemy when it comes to Smith's claims and methods in translating Egyptian.
Take Facsimile No. 3 for example. Does John Gee defend those translations? Does he support Smith in his claim that a king's name is written therein? Nope. Gee does not stand by the prophet at all. Gee doesn't believe Joseph Smith knew what he was talking about because he can read the writing for himself and he knows Joseph Smith lied.
Again, John Gee KNOWS Joseph Smith lied. He knows it!
Kudles for mentioning that Joseph Smith obviously lifted astrological symbols (earth, moon, sun) from the Almanac. He knew they were of ancient origins -- throwing the Greek into the Egyptian like a melting pot and mix it up for a tossed salad -- J. Smith the flim-flam scholar doing what he did best -- make stuff up out of stuff he stole. Way to go, Joe!
