In Ireland, there was the Irish Republican Army that consisted of the Provisional IRA fighters and the Sinn Féin which was the political wing. Sinn Féin liked to point out that they were not responsible for the bombings.
The same thing is true with the LDS. There is the main corporate structure that is concerned with obtaining money and the religious wing which is not responsible for the bombings.
