Civil War heroes compared to Church heroes and Villains

Post by _deacon blues »

I think it’s significant that I was taught in my U.S. History classes that there were heroes and villains on both sides of the Civil War. It seems it would be enlightening to have been taught that in Church History as well. There was a little nuance in my Church History classes. People like Emma Smith and David Whitmer were given a little slack, but mostly it was: Loyal members of we’re all good, apostates were all bad. The Civil War history invites students to use a nuanced approach, at least it used to.
