If Science is Based on Faith, Then It Is a Religion Uh-oh

Post by _Philo Sofee »

The backfire on a theist/faithist using this argument is damning to every other religion. I found this on an atheist debate board and never seen it worded quite this way before. It is remarkable.

If science is based on faith, then it's a religion... but if science is a religion, then it's one that heals the sick, feeds billions and reveals the secrets of the universe, one whose "high priests" have walked on the moon and sent robots to other planets.

If science is a religion, then it's directly comparable to other religions - and it's demonstrably superior; the paltry tricks and laughable claims of traditional religions don't even merit attention in comparison to the crushing and obvious power of science.

So, by all means, if a theist wants to go there, let him. Then let the priests of his religion demonstrate greater miracles than those of science. It's a self-defeating argument.
