Meridian Magazine, Cutting Edge of Missing the Point

In this article, the columnist insists the "New Atheism" hasn't added even one new argument to all the old atheist arguments in any manner.

I have to almost agree with him but the reason is what he misses. The old arguments refuted the old Gods, and the new Gods are simply reincarnations with all the same properties of the old God that has been soundly destroyed and put in the ash heap. If religion wants to get rid of atheism, then provide actual evidence. The old worn out solidly refuted answer of religion has not changed an iota either. It always rests on faith, which atheism has wiped out as a logical and rational reason for believing. Faith does not change the probabilities, only evidence can do so. Religion with it's claims is running in circles complaining about the answers atheism has given. Perhaps it needs to grasp the seriousness of Carl Sagan's sage observation that extraordinary claims absolutely must come with extraordinary evidence. That is what religion has failed to provide, and why the New Atheism doesn't need to change anything. It's first answer was more than plenty for religion to handle in the old days up to ours. How do we know this? Because it still hasn't presented any evidence for any of its claims for God being real yet. Religion can't even get off square one.

The New Atheists were not a new philosophical development; they were a new cultural development, a group of critics of the privileging of theism in the modern world, especially in the wake of 9/11.
