What about since 1961 when Joseph Fielding Smith declared that man would never go into space let alone make it to the moon? That statement was even made one month after Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin completed his space orbit of the Earth.
The titles Prophet, Seers, and Revelators are more or less honorific and the Brethren should not be faulted for not actually having these abilities. I mean, what if someone was saddled with the title Plenipotentiary and yet was impotent? Stuff like that happens. Must they be ridiculed because they couldn't get it up or see the future?
The honorific title of prophet, seer, and revelator is all they really are but it's not what they claim. They claim to have all the same rights, keys, and powers of the so-called prophets of the scriptures who had visions and prophesied -- hence the written scriptures which today's living prophets love to read and quote:
Doctrine and Covenants 107:92
"Behold, here is wisdom; yea, to be a seer, a revelator, a translator, and a prophet, having all the gifts of God which he bestows upon the head of the church."
It's all a bunch of malarkey.
