Peter had the right idea the first time. He lived in a self fulfilling prophecy. It would have been even more ironic if they had written about Jesus prior to his death and the Romans saw it and used the crowing rooster scenario to test him again. Funny that Mormons continually lied about polygamy because they didn't want to go to jail, but they make a big deal out of denying God to stay alive. Thing is, trying to use anything coerced out of people in that manner is pointless, like it is when someone is captured by terrorists and forced to read a "confession" blaming everyone else but the terrorists for all the harm they do. No one thinks that the captive is serious at all. They know there are extraordinary circumstances that led them to say things they wouldn't normally say. Just say anything to live to fight another day and continue to be with the ones you love. Sounds like sanity to me.

The recent movie Silence has several Jesuit priests trying to convert Japanese in the 1600s, and the authorities roundup converts and put them through the most horrifying slow torture- hang the person upside
down and cut a tiny hole in the neck and they bleed to death in several days. Simply step on a crucifix to deny Christ and the torture ceases- you would be surprised to see how the priests responded.

Was just going to recommend this. I'd put Silence in my top 3 for religious films.

Besides, it's got two Star Wars guys and Spider-man in it. Can't go wrong there.

Considering how many movies have gone wrong with all Star Wars guys (or all Spiderman guys, for that matter), I'm not sure that's much of a recommendation.

Every one of those movies has a "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes except Phantom Menace and Amazing Spider-Man 2. I'd say that's a good record for a long-running franchise by any objective measure.

We're not talking about Willem Dafoe and Toby McGuire.

We're talking Liam Neeson (Schindler's List), Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge) and Adam Driver. But more importantly a film by Martin Scorsese.

That's pretty much all I need to know to realize that it's worth a few hours of my time. Raging Bull, Good Fellas and Casino! Silence has to at least keep one's attention.
